Beverly Hills, CA (July 30, 2002) – Cult icon Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Voice of The Joker) is slated to direct and star in Creative Light Entertainment’s fictional mockumentary, Comic Book: The Movie, which will be filmed “LIVE,” on location, at the renowned annual comic book convention, Comic-Con in San Diego, California on August 1- 4. Mark Hamill will don the mask of a fictional documentary filmmaker and plunge into Comic-Con with his crew of crazy characters, played by award winning voice over artists Billy West (Futurama, Ren & Stimpy); Jess Harnell (Animaniacs, Lilo & Stitch and Scooby-Doo) and Roger Rose (Rugrats in Paris: The Movie). Revving up the project with their improvisational talents are comedic legend Sid Caesar (NBC’s Your Show of Shows), comic book creator Stan Lee (Spider-man, the Incredible Hulk), Donna D’Errico (Baywatch), Chase Masterson (Deep Space 9, Inhuman), Gary Owens (Laugh In), Tom Kenny (Voice of Spongebob SquarePants), the granddaddy of improv – Jonathan Winters (Mork & Mindy) and many more to be announced. Executive producer Scott Zakarin is excited about this unique project because “Mark Hamill is the perfect guy to direct this film because he is not only a part of this world (Voice of the Joker), but he has an intimate understanding and love for this world. The core of this talented castrepresents the top voice over talent in the industry, all we are doing is cutting them loose.”

In light of the recent and overwhelming success of comic book favorites being adapted for the silver screen (Spider-Man, X-Men) and pending theatrical releases (The Hulk, Daredevil, The Silver Surfer), now more than ever are comics in the general public limelight. In the spirit of Waiting for Guffman, Spinal Tap and Best In Show, the timing is right for Mark Hamill, a staple in the pop culture, to set his satirical sights on the industry that Hollywood is turning to for their latest blockbuster films. This non-scripted mockumentary also celebrates the deep respect Mark Hamill has for the fans, creators, and Comic-Con itself. The film follows the antics of Donald Swan (Mark Hamill), who has just been hired to direct a documentary about his favorite comic book heroes of all time, “Commander Courage & Liberty Ladd.” Armed with the studio’s marketing guru (Roger Rose), a perpetually wasted cameraman (Jess Harnell) and the grandson of “Commander Courage’s” deceased creator (Billy West), Donald heads to the world’s largest comic book convention, Comic-con in San Diego, where they will encounter a reality that no one could have prepared for.

Comic Book: The Movie will be produced by Mark Hamill, Roger Rose, Billy West, Jess Harnell, Kathy Weiss and Eric Mittleman for Creative Light Entertainment. The film will be executive produced by Scott Zakarin, Rich Tackenberg and Peter Jaysen. In addition, similar to what Apple’s Final Cut Pro 3 and Canon did for Steven Soderbergh’s film, Full Frontal, Canon is lending their support to this one of a kind project by providing XL1S cameras and other equipment for the production.

Creative Light Entertainment is a vertically integrated production and distribution company, which has successfully positioned itself as a creative force in the production of high quality genre films. Creative Light Entertainment’s most recent release was acquired by Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, Stan Lee’s Mutants, Monsters & Marvels, is a one-on-one documentary with filmmaker Kevin Smith. This project follows up Creative Light Entertainment’s recent successful release of Mind Meld: Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy and Showtime’s critically acclaimed television documentary Hail Sid Caesar! The Golden Age of Comedy.

Creative Light Entertainment will also be presenting the Mark Hamill Wants YOU in His Movie! panel on Friday, August 2nd at 7PM in Room 6A at the San Diego Convention Center. Mark Hamill, Billy West, Jess Harnell and Roger Rose will begin the panel by discussing the characters they’ve created, the genesis of the project, the challenges of producing it and their past collaborations. This portion of the panel will be highlighted by an exclusive first look at scenes from their upcoming animated fantasy film, Aerotroopers. The rest of the evening will give fans of Mark Hamill the opportunity to be part and appear in his historic mockumentary.
